March was a pretty rough month poker-wise. I have felt a little bit burned out the last two weeks. I have been going into most of my sessions feeling generally irritated, and that is just a horrible mind-set to have from the get-go. One day I loaded up 4 tables to start the day, lost about $700 in the first 70 hands and just decided to quit. I had no motivation or desire to continue playing whatsoever.
I took a couple of complete, much-needed days off from poker.

Hooray for a positive winrate!
As the year progresses, my respect for the people that achieve SNE goes up and up. I especially admire the people that make SNE while winning consistently, like TPirahna, for example.
I’m having a lot of fun with my piano endeavor. It’s really nice to break up the monotony of the day with an activity that is zero percent luck. I am still pretty much a hack, but I’m slowly learning Claire De Lune. Here is page one. Page two is 500% more difficult than page one, so it might be a while before I post that up. 🙂
Thanks for reading, and good luck at the tables!
Well done with the Debussy! Let it breath. 🙂
Impressive video!
Best of luck in April
Hang in there Ryan, it’s a marathon. I’m amazed at how much you’ve played, I don’t think I’ve ever played as many hands as you have over a 3 month stretch – you’re playing almost 50% more than you need to to make SNE. I don’t blame you for taking a break!
Seriously, that many hands has to take a toll on you mentally. I go through stretches where either I’m unmotivated, I’m irritated like you have been, or tired.. A problem with going for SNE, is sometimes you have to play when you’re not at your best, in fact a lot of the time. Make sure you keep taking breaks. You’re so far ahead of pace, you have that luxury now and should take advantage of it.
Good luck in April.
Thanks for the nice comments guys. I’m going to keep on truckin’. 🙂
I am curious about your 100BB buy-in, any particular reason for that?
Hi John,
Before stars implemented the auto-rebuy functionality, I would buy-in for 100BBs to avoid the need to ever manually rebuy chips. I just hated the vibes associated with needing to rebuy.
I have since implemented the auto-rebuy function, but haven’t edited my buy in amounts. I think I will adjust that in the future though, as it is now pretty pointless to buy in for that much.
you play LHE right? what games and stakes do you play? I like reading your blog and wanted to get a better idea what kind of grinder you are.
Yea, lhe cash games, hu 6-max or full, usually between 10/20 and 50/100.
